Known as the “Diamond Fuji” phenomenon, photographers both amateur and professional flocked to Fujikawa to get the best vantage point.
The diamond appeared at about 7:20 AM as the sun rose over Mount Fuji. A few clouds floated in the sky, but conditions were nearly perfect. Depending on the weather, Diamond Fuji can be seen from a variety of locations around the Winter Solstice.
