Explore the Shimanami Kaido by Scooter
The Shimanami Kaido is best known as a bicycling route, Shima Rider, however, rents scooters and motorcycles to travelers who want the Seto Inland Sea scenery and the local food stops without the effort of cycling.

The Shimanami Kaido links Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari in Ehime Prefecture, crossing the islands of the Seto Inland Sea by bridge. It draws cyclists from Japan and abroad, attracted by its coastal landscapes and island scenery.
Shima Rider offers another way to explore the route: rental scooters and motorcycles. The company recently expanded and renovated its Mukaishima branch on the Onomichi side of the route, with an improved reception area and more support for riders before they set off.
A Variety of Rentals
Shima Rider offers several types of bikes, including the 50cc VINO, which can be ridden with a standard Japanese driver's license. It has four rental locations along the Shimanami Kaido, and allows one-way rentals, so travelers can pick up a bike at one location and return it at another.
At the Mukaishima branch, staff provide information on sightseeing spots and places to eat on each island, and point riders to the designated routes for smaller motorcycles and guidance on how to use them. First-time riders and those who have not ridden in a while get an explanation of the controls and safety precautions, and a practice area is available before departure.
On a scooter, riders can explore quiet island streets, and stop at any restaurant that catches their eye, while covering a lot of ground.
Intercoms, Merchandise, and a Place to Stay
The renovation added an intercom rental option, available exclusively at this location. Riders can talk to friends or family while on the road, sharing impressions of the scenery or deciding where to stop next.
The shop also sells original T-shirts, stickers, and keychains.
Directly across from the shop is Onomichi Stay Gen, a private rental accommodation that hosts up to 19 guests, so a family or group can explore the islands over several days rather than squeezing everything into a day trip.
