Reporters were able to take a look at the unearthed railroad remains on January 8. Takanawa Embankment was built in the early 1870s to lay the first railroad track in Japan... in the middle of the sea. The entire length was around 2.7 kilometers (1.68 miles).

The fill was reinforced with stone walls. Square stones covered the slope. The area had been reclaimed until East Japan Railway found parts of the stone wall in 2019. The railway company is considering ways to preserve the structure.
