Tech That Measures Congestion in Indoor Areas
Officials tested a system at Tokyo Dome that uses state-of-the-art technology to measure congestion in indoor arenas. The trial took place over the weekend when professional baseball games were held at the venue.
By NIPPON TV NEWS 24 JAPANThe system uses footage taken on 10 surveillance cameras to determine which areas of the stadium are crowded. To protect spectators’ privacy, people are shown as human-shaped icons on monitors. In addition, receivers installed at about 100 locations detect radio waves of visitors’ smartphones, enabling officials to see which areas people tend to gather at. The data will be used to prevent crowds from forming as part of anti-coronavirus measures.
