Hiroshima Marks 75th Anniversary of A-Bomb
People in the city observed a moment of silence at 8:15 a.m., the exact time the American bomb struck the city of Hiroshima.
Hiroshima Mayor Matsui Kazumi told reporters, "It is Hiroshima's duty to build a consensus in civil society to unite the world to abolish nuclear weapons and realize enduring world peace."
The average age of atomic bomb survivors, or Hibakushas, are now over 83 years of age. Nearly 324,000 people are listed as having perished from the bomb.
