New Daily High of Coronavirus Cases in Tokyo
Officials tested about 4,500 people in Tokyo on Monday, the largest number so far in a single day. Less people are visiting the Kabukicho entertainment district in Shinjuku Ward this month amid warnings of the spread of the virus in nightlife establishments.
The number of people in the area between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. soared in mid-June after authorities lifted movement restrictions. But the figure has dropped to around 70 percent of peak times. Still, the increase in cases is alarming, and the governor of Tokyo has asked that people refrain from unnecessary travel.
