Japan PM Vows Aid to Rain-Battered Kumamoto
Prime Minister Abe Shinzo visited the disaster-stricken areas of Kumamoto Prefecture, which have been devastated by heavy rains on Japan's southwestern island, Kyushu.

The prime minister inspected disaster sites and evacuation centers. Abe also offered a silent prayer in the village of Kuma, where 14 people at a nursing home died due to flooding from a nearby river.
He says he is putting together 400 billion yen from the government’s disaster recovery and reserve funds, and will allocate the aid as quickly as possible.
