Upopoy National Ainu Museum Finally Opens
After delays, the Ainu now have an official space to showcase and preserve their unique cultural heritage at the Upopoy National Ainu Museum in Hokkaido. The center showcases the unique culture of the Ainu, an indigenous people in northern Japan.

Visitors can enjoy traditional Ainu dances and activities and see historical artifacts at a folk museum. The opening was postponed twice, resulting in a two-and-a-half-month delay due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Visitors will need to reserve tickets in advance. Facility operators say they have implemented measures to prevent the spread of infection including limiting the number of visitors.
