New Shinkansen Bullet Train Model Debuts
A new model of the Shinkansen bullet train went into service Wednesday between Tokyo and Fukuoka’s Hakata stations. Dubbed the N700S, it is the first fully remodeled Tokaido Shinkansen series in 13 years.

Railway enthusiasts flocked to JR Tokyo Station to see the debut. The series features seats with improved comfort, each equipped with an electrical outlet. The electronic board is also larger than earlier models.
Central Japan Railway President Kaneko Shin expressed his hope that passengers will enjoy traveling on the N700S. JR Central plans to introduce 40 units of the model in the next three years.
