The World’s Stinkiest Flowers Bloom in Ibaraki

Japan is known for many clean, delicious and tantalizing smells, but Tsukuba Botanical Garden in Ibaraki Prefecture just bloomed a 2-meter-tall corpse flower, titan arum, that gives off a terrible stench.

Titan arum, also known as the corpse flower, has a large blossom and even larger stench. It measures 2.32 meters tall and 88 centimeters across, emitting a foul odor soon after blooming. Tsukuba Botanical Gardens has produced five of the flowers, which typically wither after three days, since 2018. The corpse plant is native to Indonesia.
