The First Cherry Blossom Forecast of 2019
According to the JMC, cherry blossoms will bloom a little earlier in 2019 than most years. Southern areas of Japan are typically the first to see these beautiful flowers burst into bloom, and then they slowly make their way north. Here are the current projections for major regions so far:
Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture - March 20
Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture - March 22
Tokyo - March 22
Osaka, Osaka Prefecture - March 27
Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture - April 9
Sapporo, Hokkaido - May 10
From current projections, visitors will have over a month in which they can see sakura throughout the country!
Since we're still a few months away from spring, the forecast is subject to change. As newer forecasts are released we'll be sure to update, so check back here if you're planning a visit! Don't forget to check out our hub for all things cherry blossom here!
