Improving Traditional Crafts with Technology
Kumiki is a Japanese carpentry technique in which wood is joined without the use of nails, using deceptively complex design. Exchange students from the University of Buffalo have been learning about this traditional technique, and helping devise ways to use technology to push the possibilities of kumiki even further.
Getting hands-on with this aspect of Japanese culture is a rather unique experience, and the opportunities presented by modern technology may help produce innovative new ways to apply this part of culture to daily life. For more information, check out the video!
