Aoi-Marushin: Get Your Tempura Fix in Asakusa

Aoi-Marushin: Get Your Tempura Fix in Asakusa

Aoi-Marushin (葵丸進) was founded near Senso-ji Temple's famed Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) in 1946. Specializing in tempura and tendon (tempura on rice), the restaurant moved to its present location half a block west of the gate in 1965. Just keep an eye out for the tempura display and deep blue noren hanging at the entrance!

In Japan since 2001, I'm a former ALT trainer who's lived in Shizuoka, Saitama and Tokyo, and visited 34 of Japan's 47 prefectures (13 to go!). When I can get out from behind the editorial desk, I take photos, do bits of theater and practice German longsword.
