All You Need To Know About Sanrio Puroland
Sanrio Puroland is an indoor park in Tokyo dedicated solely to the beloved Sanrio characters, featuring small rides, shows, parades, shops and restaurants all centered around Hello Kitty, Gudetama and other friends. Every corner of the park is filled with the usual cuteness overload of the characters, creating a wholesome experience for all.
What Is Sanrio Puroland?
If you're expecting exciting rides, this is probably not the place for you; however, children and Sanrio fans of all ages will undoubtedly find the park's atmosphere and attention to detail worth every single yen!
The park is relatively small, so it can be fully seen in one day. Since it’s indoors, you don’t need to worry about the weather, which makes it perfect for rainy afternoons! It’s open from around 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (6 p.m. on weekends) on most days of the year, with the exception of a few sporadic holidays (usually in the first and second week of the month). For a more detailed schedule, you should check the Puroland calendar.
The Attractions
Among the nine attractions of the park, you definitely don't want to miss the "My Melody & Kuromi~ Mymeroad Drive," in which you hop on a train and ride around Mariland. Other attractions include the Sanrio Character Boat Ride, a ten-minute trip into the Sanrio world, and the Hello Kitty Bell of Happiness inside the Wisdom Tree, which claims to improve your luck in happiness and love with one ring!
Additionally, you can step in the dreamy scenes of rooms dedicated to popular Sanrio characters like My Melody and Gudetama. All rooms include cute props, making them the perfect settings for creative and funny pictures! The attraction and restaurant waiting times can be seen online here, so that you can avoid long lines and make the most out of your visit.
The Parades
The park doesn't only offer fixed attractions, but also parades and special shows which tend to change over the years. Remember to check the website to see what shows are available on any given day. Shows at the time of writing include the "Miracle Illusion Happiness," a Hello-Kitty-themed illusion show enhanced with lights and projection mapping; "Hello Kitty in Wonderland," mixing the best-known Sanrio characters with Alice in Wonderland; and the "Miracle Gift Parade," featuring an array of Sanrio characters.
Aside from parades, you can also meet some of your favorite characters in the special meet and greet shows. The available characters change each month, so, again, check the website for more info. Special events are also held for characters whose birthdays fall in the month as well as the occasional seasonal events that are also held at Puroland around popular festivities like Christmas or Halloween.
Shopping at Puroland
Shopping is also a large part of the Puroland experience. Shops sell all kinds of Sanrio-themed goods, anything from small objects like stationary and key chains to food or clothing. Along with the general Sanrio shops, characters like Gudetama or Little Twin Stars also have their own dedicated shops. Be on the look out for Sanrio Puroland limited items!
The following credit cards and payment methods are generally accepted at Sanrio Puroland: Cedyna (OMC)/JCB/Visa/MasterCard/UC/Diners Club/Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS (DC, UFJ, NICOS)/JACCS/Orico/Saison/AEON/American Express/UnionPay/Alipay. Also, if you suddenly run out of cash due to over-shopping, ATM and currency exchanges are available on the third floor as well as a tax-free counter for tourists. If needed, the third-floor shop offers delivery to addresses in Japan. More information is available on-site, as some items cannot be delivered.
Eating at Puroland
After all the running around in such a cute world, you're bound to get hungry. While bringing food from outside is prohibited, Sanrio Puroland offers plenty of restaurants for you to choose from. Naturally, most of them are themed around Sanrio characters, offering food almost too cute to eat. If you want to sit down for a proper lunch or dinner, you can choose between the Character Food Court, the Yakata Restaurant and the Sanrio Rainbow World Restaurant.
The Character Food Court is the place to go if you want to eat cute Sanrio-themed food. The only problem will be choosing among irresistibly adorable dishes like the Hello Kitty’s pink burger plate, the My Sweet Piano milk pasta or the Purin and Muffin soy sauce ramen. The Yakata Restaurant is a buffet restaurant with both Asian and international cuisine. While eating, you can enjoy a live singing performance by none other than Hello Kitty! Prices are around ¥2,000 (US$18) for adults and around ¥900 for children.
The Sanrio Rainbow World is peculiar because each booth has its own menu. You can choose among a large variety of dishes, such as pasta, omurice, meat, crêpes, ice cream, etc. Needless to say, all dishes are decorated with beloved Sanrio characters like Little Twin Stars and Hello Kitty. Don’t miss the cute crêpes filled with refreshing fruits!
You can also grab a bite at Cinnamoroll Dream Café or the Sweet Parlor. At Cinnamoroll Dream Café, you can enjoy drinks and desserts like cream puffs and pudding, all themed around the character of Cinnamoroll, while watching Sanrio anime on the restaurant televisions. The Sweet Parlor is a small stand selling soft drinks, ice cream and the irresistibly cute Cinnamon Fuwamoko Bun. Unfortunately, specific halal or vegan dishes are not offered.
If you have concerns about allergies, contact the customer center by phone at 04-2339-1111 (from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays).
Visiting With Kids
While you might be one of the adults that just visits Puroland because you love Sanrio, Puroland requests guests with small kids avoid using strollers on the first and second floors. If you find yourself in need of a stroller, a baby sling might be a suitable option instead. The third-floor information counter will hold your stroller for free. Other than that, kids are more than welcome! Nursing rooms are available and diaper changing stations are located in all women’s toilets. In addition, if you’re short on diapers, baby food or baby formula, these are sold at the information counter on the first floor.

Passports can be bought either online or at the park entrance. Park entrance sales start 15 minutes before the opening time on weekdays and 30 minutes before opening on weekends. Discount coupons are often available on the official website, so don’t forget to check the website before going. Discount coupons can sometimes be found in Tokyo hotels or in Sanrio Gift Shops as well.

If you want to skip the lines, you may consider buying a Puropass. The cost of one Puropass is ¥500 per attraction per person, and ¥1,000 for a family pass (up to four people). This ticket has a specific set time for every attraction. By going at designated time you can skip the wait. The pass must be bought online in advance and only a small number of Puropasses are sold every day, so make sure to get yours asap. More information in Japanese can be found here. At the moment, it seems that Puropasses can be bought only in Japan.
