The trailer for the live-action Blade of the Immortal movie was released on November 10, 2016. Directed by Takashi Miike and starring SMAP boy-band hunk Takuya Kimura, the story centers around a warrior who's cursed with immortality until he kills 1,000 evil men.

Called Mugen no Junin in Japanese, the manga was published in Monthly Afternoon (Gekkan Afternoon) comic magazine from June 1993 to December 2012. Known for writer-artist Hiroaki Samura's dynamic ink work and graphic action sequences, controversial Ichi the Killer director Miike is a perfect fit for this live-action adaptation. Blade of the Immortal will open in Japan on April 29, 2017.
