The Tottori Sand Dunes are Japan's largest desert, a 16 kilometer by 2 kilometer (9.9 x 1.2 mi) strip of sand located on the edge of Tottori City on the Sea of Japan. A major tourist draw, 2 million people annually visit the dunes, which are part of the San’in Kaigan National Park—itself a part of San'in Kaigan Geopark.

If you want to do more than take stunning photos and walk across the undulating dunes, you can also ride camels, go sand-surfing, go paragliding or ride in a horse cart.
