Light Festival in Kyoto's Shimogamo Shrine

Kyoto’s Shimogamo Shrine is one of Japan’s oldest shrines, dating back over 1,200 years. The shrine and its surrounding primeval forest, Tadasu no Mori (Forest of Correction), were thought to have protected Kyoto from malign influences.
The sacred grounds of this UNESCO World Heritage Site typically close at 5 p.m.; however, in what has become an annual event since 2016, visitors are encouraged to arrive after-hours to experience the grounds at night when the shrine and forest are brought to life by a spectacular light festival. Japanese tech/art collective TeamLab, together with Shimogamo Shrine, will present two separate interactive installations.
