On April 13, Toho Cinemas released a new trailer for Godzilla Resurgence, the studio's first new Godzilla movie in over a decade.

Called Shin Gojira (New Godzilla) in Japanese, this will be the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise, and the 29th produced by Toho. Toho's last Godzilla film was Godzilla: Final Wars, which was made to mark the iconic kaiju's 50th anniversary in 2004.

The film is directed by Evangelion's Hideaki Anno and Shinjji Higuchi, who helmed 2015's much-maligned live-action Attack on Titan movies. Evangelion fans may note a certain similarity between shots of swiveling tank turrets and vehicle-launched missiles with similar scenes in 1997's The End of Evangelion.

Designed as a reboot of the franchise, Godzilla Resurgence will be released in Japan on July 29, 2016.
