The digital art museum teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM, located in Toyosu, Tokyo, has been named “Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction” at the World Travel Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious honors in the global travel industry. This marks its second win, following the award in 2023. Often called the “Academy Awards of the travel industry,” the World Travel Awards (WTA) are decided through votes by travel professionals and the general public across more than 200 countries. In this year’s “Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction” category, teamLab Planets triumphed over other nominees including the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, and Angkor Wat.

Since opening in 2018, the museum has become a must-visit destination for travelers to Japan. To date, it has welcomed over 10 million visitors from 211 countries and regions, with about 70% of international guests purchasing tickets before arriving in Japan. It has also topped Visit Japan Lab’s “2025 Inbound Tourism Hotspot Rankings (Tokyo Edition)” for three consecutive years, underscoring its global popularity.

In early 2025, the museum underwent a major expansion, adding new interactive areas such as the “Catching and Collecting Forest” and “Athletic Forest.” Several outdoor artworks were also unveiled, including the “Glass House,” where visitors can enjoy tea and sake, and “Emptiness Table,” a space where guests can dine on Vegan Ramen UZU within an art installation.
